Picked up a boxed set of Cadian Heavy Weapons teams with my TradeMe profits and discovered this interesting article regarding creating 15 heavy weapon teams from the boxed set and some extra Cadian plastic parts. May have to try a few of these – in particular I’d like to do Autocannons, Heavy Bolters, Missile Launchers and Lascannons in that order. Over the years I’ve played IG I’ve never actually tried Autocannons. They seem like a good deal at S7 AP3-4? Heavy 2…a nice compromise between a Lascannon and a Heavy Bolter.

Second Terminator auction actually reached the reserve which is surprising considering the lack of action on the first. Possibly people like the dynamic old Librarian? Closes this Saturday so we’ll see how it goes.

Re-molded two old IG heads and one body over the weekend and two part molds. Heads cast fine but the body is a difficult to cast without introducing large bubbles in the legs or chest cavity. Currently I’m pouring both halves and slapping them together which is possibly the problem! The mold is too difficult to cast with a simple pour. Possibly I need to investigate in injection molding with some cheap plastic syringes.

40k Elites are queueing up to be painted…currently I have a couple of Psykers, a couple of old ‘Gestapo’ style Commissars, a couple of Priests and a Enginseer and his two Tech servitors to paint up. Oh and *still* have to finish the Basilisk.

Getting twitchy for creating Mordheim terrain again – *must* finish that Coach House as well.

TradeMe auctions going so-so. Catachans failed to reach reserve but I managed to trade off the old Metal Sentinel and a squad of Terminators which will cover the cost of a Cadian Hvy Weapon team. Ah well I’ll keep the Catachans for now eh? Can always field them as ‘Hardened Veterans’ I guess.

First mold for the heads was a failure. Vertical molding of detailed surfaces is just a recipe for trapping air bubbles in the mold. Rebuilt two 2-part molds for an old IG body and the two heads. Interestingly enough the ’1.5′ side molds for arms worked out fairly well. Three of the four arms are castable with some application of a toothpick while resin pouring to get bubbles out. Hope to get a few casts out this weekend and start building some updated heavy weapons teams (prone guardsmen on large round bases). Might grab a Cadian Heavy Weapons box and mix and match that or just scavenge a few Chaos Heavy Bolters.

Made my first trade on TradeMe. Grabbed a couple of old style Cadian Liets for half price from Phil – the guy that used to work at GW in town. Small world eh?

It also occurred to me that I could sculpt the Tau sitting statue from Klean Klay. The only problem is I don’t know how much detail I could get from the klay and it wouldn’t be robust during sculpting and I’d destroy the master after the molding process. I really should make some progress on this sculpt but have something of a artistic block at the moment…

Poured RTV for IG heads and arms but it hadn’t set overnight. I think I’ve been a bit heavy handed with the blue compound in the past because I’ve got plenty of rubber left but not a great deal of catalyst. Will give the molds another 8 hours to set today while I’m at work and then pull them out (set) or clean off the masters. In my experience if the RTV hasn’t set in 16 hours it isn’t going to set at all.

Damn, turns out I should have been painting over wash years ago. I think I’ll continue to wash with chestnut ink for the Mordheim figures as it gives them a nice dark grimy look that seems appropriate. However for 40k I’ll start using ink wash over the base colours and then highlighting with a bit of light blending. Those Basilisk tankers look much better already :|… Crap. Time to repaint my 1800 points Imperial Guard army.

Made some more progress on 40k Basilisk in the weekend – just really detailing left and then it’s out with the matt varnish. Experimenting with painting over wash rather than washing over painted figure for the two crew members. Tank is so-so but should be ok on the gaming table. Also cleaned up a couple of 1980′s plastic IG ready for resin casting for parts.

Some movement on my TradeMe auctions which is good. Also posted the old 40k metal Imperial Sentinel I have for sale. Various Epic 40k auctions have started up which are beckoning me temptingly…
