Mordheim Coach House Base

Some light detailing of Coach House base. Almost painted enough under the arches to glue the floors down and the walls together - which will suffice for a game this weekend hopefully. It’s a bit unfortunate I didn’t start using Hydrostone earlier because I suspect all the old stopping plaster pieces aren’t going to age very well. Far too easy to chip and flake paint off. Ah well.

Planning Mordheim Church

Still casting at least a set of molds a day. I’ve stopped casting the gothic church mold for now because well, I figured out in the long weekend I actually have enough pieces cast to build an entire gothic church! Casting a few mold a day for a couple of weeks can add up. So I’m now planning to build a ruined gothic church combined with the gothic bell-tower. So I’ve swapped out the church mold for the belltower mold which I have to cast about 10 more times I believe. Ruining the building is going to be interesting. It’s definitely not going to have a roof because I’ve got no suitable roof molds yet. So exposed wooden beam-work. Maybe the side of the bell-tower that overlooks the church should be ruined…that way you could get some interesting fire down into the church itself. Possibly ruin one long wall as well to save a few bricks. I also have enough casts to build a bridge span and possibly a sunken river piece. So now it’s full speed ahead to finish the Coach House before moving onto any new Mordheim terrain. Griff and Em are back in town as well…now to pester Em for some cut MDF tiles…:)

Em the Framer

Easily got enough hydrostone cast for four 1′x1′ tiles I believe. Just waiting (waiting…waiting…) for Griff and Em to return from the beach so Em can work her framing magic on some MDF for me. Used the last of my Citadel black primer to prime a bunch of wrought iron gates last night. Wondering if I can pick up some cheap enamel spray primer from Mitre10 to do these tiles once I’ve glued the casts down.

Cleaning Resin Casts

The only down side to the wrought iron fence and gate sections is the amount of cleaning up they require to be useful. Filed and cut a bunch last night and have a handful of ready to prime gates and fence sections.

Resin Casting Fence

Resin cast a bunch of ‘wrought iron’ parts from my copy mold last night. Turns out a small capful of resin is sufficient to fill the mold. This means I can churn out a considerable number of casts before I’m out of resin. Also found that the cooking spray I’m using as mold release is too thick just sprayed from the can so I’ve taken to spray and then brushing to smooth it out. Haven’t been mold releasing the actual mold just the CD cover I smooth over the top. The mold has suffered some minor damage due to bubbles weakening certain points but nothing that can’t be fixed with a bit of filing or cutting of the casts. Another evening of casting will probably net me enough fencing sections for quite a bit of window grill and doorway work. Must make some progress on the Coach House! I seem to have a mental block regarding detailing the base… perhaps I should just drop the ‘wheel ruts’ idea and do a simple gravel with detail base like usual. Then at least I could glue the ground and first floors together.

Back from the Beach

Got back yesterday from three days at Whangamata. RTV mold of those Gothic Graveyard pieces has set and appears to be useable. Will try and cast a few gates for the Coach House this evening time permitting.

Ben’s RTV

Oops heh, I just remembered that RTV was actually Bens! Ah well thanks Ben! It went to a good cause honest. Just wait until I show you all the nifty wrought iron fences and grates and gates I’ve created.
