+1 Skeleton. VC border patrol is 17% complete. Whipped up a simple graphical progress bar this lunchtime which I’ll update weekly to track VC progress.

Over weekend completed two Ghouls and a Skeleton. Plan to finish two more Skellies and two more Ghouls this week – one of who will be the Ghast. Picked up some GW mixing pots at $1.75 each. Pretty good deal and handy for mixing your own colours. Started base painting Fell Bats. Black primed 3 Mordheim MDF tiles and cast two sets of gothic church and belltower to have enough parts to complete the church. VC border patrol is 14% complete.
Painting Ghouls last night. Reckon I can have all six done by this weekend. Also packed up gothic church and stashed it back in the garage so it doesn’t distract me from painting a VC force.
Built up smaller front arch for gothic church. Planned how to extend ‘foundation’ stones for base of belltower. Need two casts of belltower and two casts of church mold to finish. Primed Fell Bats, Lahmian, extra skeleton and zombie musician, std bearer. Should really put church away for now and do some painting.
Some progresson on gothic ‘church of the damned’ last night for Mordheim. Getting to the stage where I’m going to have to part assemble the other walls and belltower so it can be painted easily. Major work left is completing the belltower and building the back wall. Then it’s all painting and detailing from there. Must really place the ‘wyrdstone chunk’ in the floor before too much more work is done. Should probably also finish off the coach house as well since it’s 50% done. Then I’ll have sufficient Mordheim terrain for some time I hope.

Some minor VC progress. Assembled an additional skeleton to make a core unit of 16. A little more painting on the first four skeletons. Scrubbed down the two Fell Bats and extra Zombies for priming tonight. VC border patrol is 6% complete.
Made some progress in the weekend. Primed and started drybrushing the two Mordheim tiles I’ve assembled – hmmm, so I’m currently on track to do one a month as I originally posted. Assembled some more of the Mordheim gothic church, in particular built about half of the gothic belltower and discovered I need to do a few more casts on that mold:

Made some minor progress on the Vampire Counts border patrol force as well. Finished and varnished the Banshee and Necromancer. Assembled and patched two more Fell Bats. Griff and I swapped Army books so I’ve had a good read of the Brettonian rules. Decisions decisions. As nice as a Necromancer would be to have in the force he’s a pretty weak general. I’m beginning to wonder if maybe a scary Vampire Thrall would make a better general for border patrol. However I suspect Griff’s Brettonians are going to be light on magic (because he likes Knights on horsies and pegassi) so that a wizard would be a definite advantage. Curse this one hero limit! Also unsure if a Banshee is the best option…maybe Fell Bats would be more useful. Ah well, I’ve got the figures anyway so might mix and match them and see if I can’t spring a surprise on Griff when we actually get around to gaming. Notice with some trepidation that the Brettonia Army book seems to contain lots of images of Knights killing Zombies and the like. Grave Guard would be great against the Bretts but Griff and I did make a pact!
In an effort to stimulate painting and avoid the random purchasing of extra figures that both Griff and myself are prone to we’ve formed a pact. Neither of us is free to purchase any new figures until we’ve painted our 500 point WHFB Border Patrol force to a suitable level. This pact doesn’t cover rulebooks or magazines – just figures and in Griff’s case it also doesn’t include figures purchased for his lady friend Emily. I also mentioned to Griff that the first man to crack (if he does crack) should purchase an equal dollar value of figures for the other man as punishment. Although I’m not sure how keen on that idea he was considering $85 Brettonian Grail Knights are due to be released this month. Right, time to invest some serious painting effort into the Vampire Counts! Oh and why yes I am a modelling geek. Do you have a problem with that?
