Didn’t get a lot of painting done over the weekend as this cold is still kicking my ass. Damn I hate being sick. Finished filing down the 5th Ed Wight champion I picked up from TradeMe a while back. He had a big ugly skull for a face so I just drilled and filed that out and patched the gap with green stuff so now he has an empty chainmail hood instead. Working on painting the first rank of Zombies. Some progress being made. I discovered that GW’s ‘Flesh Wash’ ink can easily be darkened down with the addition of some cheap black india ink. Just as good and half the price of the Windor & Newton ‘Chestnut Ink’ I’ve been using previously.
Assembled the new Stuart ‘Honey’ with a turned out tank commander. I’ll make this one the command tank for the armored support team. Went together very nicely…much better fit than the older model. Need to apply some stowage though. Started assembling second Humber Mk II armored car as well. Once the two AC’s are painted and the 5 Universal Carriers are finished I’ll have a couple of recce units done.
Started painting a couple of WHFB Zombies as well. Still experimenting with rotted flesh schemes.
Spend most of the night stuffing pink batts into the ceiling again. Found an extremely desiccated rat corpse up there as well. Vis-a-vis his metabolic processes had ceased to be. Probably explains the dodgy smell we had a couple of months ago that we thought was coming from the floorboards.
Picked up a re-mastered Stuart ‘Honey’ and a second Humber Mk II last night from Historic Games. Posted some comments on the FOW forum. Didn’t get any modelling done last night as I spent most of the evening crawling around in our ceiling replacing the crappy old insulation with new fluffy pink batts.
After posting on the Flames of War forum and doing a bit of searching I’ve learned that the New Zealanders basically only marked their AFVs and then they used the British vehicle marking system. Universal Carriers don’t appear to have been marked as AFVs. So marked up the Stuart ‘Honey’ and varnished it. Marked up the Humber MkII but needs a bit more detail work to finish. Also picked up a $3.95 dustpan from Plastic Box with a nice black nylon brush. Clipped a bunch of bristles and they make handy vehicle aerials when attached to FOW vehicles with a bit of green stuff and superglue.
Black+green ink washed the old Zombies I camo green based ages ago. They actually don’t look too bad. Will do some highlighting on their flesh this week sometime and see if that scheme with do for them.
Drybrushed the Humber MkII armored car. Need to do some research on British vehicle markings to finish the Stuart and this AC. Base painted 4 Ghouls and thought about painting the last three Grave Guard but didn’t get around to it in the end…
Well, the latest White Dwarf just arrived in my mailbox and it’s full of Storm of Chaos stuff which frankly I don’t give an anus rattus about. Usually WD isn’t bad reading, but the last 3-4 issues have seemed quite dull. Wonder if I should bother re-subscribing?
Oh and it turns out the painting competition opens on the 28th June and closes on the 14th July or something like that. So I might select a few figures to enter and take them down to St Lukes GW this weekend.
This looks kinda interesting. Might have to try that technique out for some metal doors on the Mordheim ruined church – maybe with a nice embossed ‘twin tailed’ comet?
