City Wall Hoarding

Painted and varnished the first hoarding for the Mordheim city wall. This simple foam-card and balsa piece is removeable and is intended to provide a bit of extra cover when the city wall pieces are used in a game of Mordheim. It’s quite tall compared to the fortress towers - however I also intend to build some ‘L’ shaped hoardings for the tower ramparts as well at some point.

Those fine gargoyles are available from Freebooter Miniatures and are very nice little sculpts.

Mordheim Mounted Highwayman

Picked up a Mordheim Mounted Highwayman figure from TradeMe for $10NZ. It must have been a mis-pack because the unopened blister contained the mounted figure only.

Painted Fortress

Here is the painted fortress with some light weathering effects around the bases of the walls and windows. The tower top photo also shows the crude resin hinge set I threw together. Everything has been sealed with polyurethane wood varnish. The Banshee is just for scale…the castle isn’t haunted! I think the brown-stone scheme actually worked out pretty well. Still lacking some minor details…like a gate for the gate house and finishing the hoarding.

The whole castle is modular and fits together nicely into a Mordheim city wall as well. Although I still want to put together a set of three 60 degree fieldstone corner pieces. Molding them would allow me to build an equilateral triangle tower which would be useful for arranging the Mordheim city wall in a less linear way.

Fortress Painting Finished

All the fortress sections have been completely painted. There’s some minor detail work to do. I need to paint a bunch of barrels, apply some static grass, finish the hoarding and build a removeable main gate from foam card and balsa wood. All of which I hope to achieve this week. Then I’ll post some photos!

Hoarding

Finished building hoarding for gatehouse. It’s removeable though so it will be handy for Mordheim. Gravelled bases of two remaining wall sections so they just need to be painted and a little light detailing in the form of barrels. Might also apply some static grass to the various pieces of the fortress I’ve already completed. Getting there…

Painting the Fortress 2

Still painting the fortress. Gate house and back wall are painted and varnished. The gate house still needs detailing in the form of an actual gate. I’ve also started constructing a balsa + foam card hoarding to go over the gate. GTA SA is busy stealing modelling time at the moment though…

Painting the Fortress

Painting the fortress. All four towers are complete and varnished. That includes painted balsa doors for each archway and some light weathering effects around the windows and base. Working on detailing the bases of each wall section. Hope to get the fortress painted in about a week. Will post pictures once it’s complete.

Also dry-assembled 2 more Mordheim 1′x1′ floor tiles.
