Modular table So I’ve got myself three sheets of 1200 x 600 x 12mm MDF and two huge sheets of DOW blue insulation foam and am scrabbling around the web looking for North African table inspiration. There’s some pretty nice stuff out there and the Flames of War forum is a great place to start.

This modular table design is definitely worth emulating imho as it’s a nice blend of glued terrain and open spaces for moveable details.

I also re-discovered a site I’d been to in the past that details various interesting techniques for 15mm scale terrain. In particular I thought the creator’s idea of cast rubble piles is definitely worth using.

Final I stumbled across another very nice Brecourt table on Kim Allman’s site that includes a lot of custom made trench works. This ties in nicely with another site that details the assault of Brecourt Manor led by Lt. Richard Winters and re-created in the Band of Brothers mini-series.

September FOW Work

Well, I’ve been slacking in the Pityak Forums Mid-Winter Modelling Madness competition. I spent almost all of August making those 15mm trench kits. However I’ve busted out the paints again and feel I’m back on track.

This month I hope to at least finish off those six large Infantry bases to complete my second Rifle Platoon. I’m also going to try completing as many of those small Infantry bases as possible because that will round out my HQ, as well as the Artillery Command + Observers and start in on the third and final Rifle Platoon.

WWII Cologne Cathedral

This is one image from an interesting set of WWII aerial photos that a Flickr user discovered loose in the front of an old library book.

While we’re on the subject I also stumbled across a British online Aerial Reconnaisasance Archive site.

There’s a nifty tutorial for sculpting Dragon Wings in the CreaFigs forums using green stuff over a wire armature. It’s in French but includes a series of step-by-step pictures.

This is courtesy of the YahooGroups sculpting forum.

The Hive Fleet Moloch site has evidently been around for a while, although I’ve just stumbled across it. I believe the Tyranid Kill Team has been featured in White Dwarf in the past. The best way to get a glimpse at the creator’s insanity is to view the site map – clearly they’re quite fond of Tyranids!

The highlight for me was the simple idea for a ‘Rocket Gaunt’ which is far superior to the standard metal Tyranid Gargoyles imho.

I really must get around to stripping my motley bugs and repainting them using the dipping technique that Dustan has tried recently.

Ebob 28mm Horse Green I regularly visit the Ebob Miniatures ‘Greenroom’ to see what this sculptor is up to. There’s invariably interesting work on their site and the most recent piece (as of this posting) is no exception. Imho this beautiful and dynamic 28mm horse sculpt far exceeds the mediocre plastic ‘horses’ that Games Workshop include in their Fantasy line. Lovely!

This horse is available from Ebob Miniatures as a multi-part white metal kit. Despite the fact I have almost no use for a 28mm horse at the moment I’m very tempted just to order one! The creator also grants permission for commerical re-use and re-casting which is interesting.

If anybody noticed our hosting provider decided yesterday morning that we’d violated their acceptable use policy and suspended our account without warning which was fun! So now we’re just going through a delicate dance with their email tech support to try and figure out exactly what the problem is.

Sometimes it’s painful living in New Zealand and having to deal with people via queued support emails…
