Realistic looking trees are one of those constant problems for fantasy tabletop wargamers. I’ve tried my hand at wire trees in the past with mixed success – they look reasonable but are very time consuming to create.

A tutorial from www.thepalantir.org, (a Lord of the Rings site) describes an interesting looking alternative: tin foil trees.

28mm Pond with Footbridge Here’s another 28mm pond I’ve almost finished for a commissioned Fantasy piece. It just needs some reeds around the base of the footbridge before it gets carefully packed.

These ponds always turn out quite nicely and I particularly like the way the bridge is reflected in the water. However I feel there’s quite a gap between the effort involved and the price people are willing to pay.

Perhaps I should post a step by step tutorial on how I’m creating these terrain pieces because then people could just go ahead and make their own. Now I look at the photo I wish I hadn’t just grabbed an unpainted figure from the paint station, curses!

Ryan Skow's 28mm Guardhouse Ryan Skow’s website details a number of excellent 28mm Medieval buildings made from foam card, balsa wood and Hirst Arts cast pieces. His work is very clean and has a more historical feel than most ruined Mordheim buildings but there’s a lot of great inspiration there. Each building also has step-by-step instructions and there are several useful tutorials on the site.

Cast 15mm Zeltbahn tents Here’s a crappy cellphone WIP shot of the 15mm Zeltbahn tents I’m creating. They look a little undersized next to those Brits but I suspect that’s simply because they’re not based while the figures are. The white tents are resin casts while the green tent is the master made from Green Stuff over a DIY epoxy putty core. I intend to add some additional detail by placing a German helmet over the central tent pole (as was commonly done in the field) and possibly sculpting some tent pegs at the corners if I can get them to cast without difficulty.

I’m reasonably happy with their look at the moment…although it does occur to me that I’m going to have to construct two or three more masters to have enough variety to group several tents together on a piece of terrain. I also still need at least one German staff tent.

Wandering back into topic but staying with the iPod theme: ‘Roll 2d6′ is a podcast where ‘two long-time gamers, Adam and Nate, talk about games, gamers and gaming’. They run a blog too.

Not as dire as it sounds honest – in fact the 28th October edition covers an old Steve Jackson game I used to own as a spotty youth…Car Wars!

Ok, so this is a little off topic, but recently I purchased an iPod shuffle. I have to admit the first question that came to mind was what do I do once the lithium ion battery is toast? Fortunately here’s the solution!
