The good news regarding the casting is I'm actually more then halfway there for most of the basic blocks. Some of the fiddly little blocks are going to take me a while to cast as I only just got the required Gothic Tomb mold. Plus (annoyingly enough) I need to do a bunch of casting before I can even start laying out the floorplan!

I actually bought a Cathedral from someone. That alone is a lot of work. But to do this, man, that would be an accomplishment.

Go for it. I'd love to see one done (well, besides by Mr. Hirst himself).

Less discerning - hell they go for religious structures as a matter of principle.

Christopher has a good point and one that occurred to me last night too. Make the bulk of the cathedral intact, but missing a roof or make it removeable. Then make two versions of the smaller removeable side "A", first a ruined one and then later (if I get around to it) an intact one.

WWII bombers generally <a href="http://www.tabletop-terrain.com/index.php/archives/2005/09/11/454/" rel="nofollow">avoided religious structures</a> (with a few <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Monte_Cassino" rel="nofollow">noteable exceptions</a>) but I figure forces in the Dark Millenia are probably less discerning...

My advice would be build it, but build two versions of the "A" section, one as described and one ruined so it will fit in better on a Mordheim table...

Heh. You guys raise some interesting points. It WILL weigh a ton once built so I best base it on something sturdier than 3mm MDF. Or at least build a layered stepped base from 3-4 3mm MDF pieces. Fortunately one of my gaming tables is an ex-factory steel work table which I'd quite happily shelter under in an earthquake.

I don't think I'll build the full Cathedral, but rather a ruined one. For two reasons...I want to use it for CityFight, 40k and Mordheim which all need ruined terrain and I can't be bothered casting and assembling all those tedious gothic roof sections!

I've actually started counting blocks according to the plan and blow me down if I don't already have close to half of the basic gothic blocks I need due to previous casting. Still a *LOT* of casting to go though before I actually start sticking bits together though.

I hear your burbsee. My attention span is a little longer than that...but I definitely need 3-4 projects in the air at any one time so I can swap to another when I get bored.

And no Daniel...if and when I finish it you can't blow it up...

What a silly question. Of course you shouldn't build it. It would take far too much time, require waaay too much detailing, and would weigh half a tonne when completed.

It would be utterly irresponsible to undertake such a task.

Ahh come on. You know you want to!
