So I really attacked the CD surface with 180 grit sandpaper, making it very rough before applying a thin layer of builder's PVA and smoothing air drying DAS over that. The first row of building bricks and flagstones where then heavily pressed into the DAS and secured with more PVA. The end result seems secure enough once dried. I think the central hole in the CD helped give the DAS some purchase too. Interesting looking blog you've started too btw.
