I’ve never played Ancients in the past but these excellent Corvus Belli 15mm armies are calling to me. For roughly $40US you get an entire 15mm DBA (De Bellis Antiquitatis) army in a boxed set.
They’re lovely looking like 15mm figures and after painting a Flames of War 15mm force I’m fairly confident I could knock them off without too much difficulty. Of course I’d have to play in North Africa again so I can reuse my table and terrain. That would imply Romans and Numidians would be good choices possibly?
Hmmm now before I go off half cocked I should find a copy of these rules and give them a read. Anybody out there got any DBA pointers they care to share with me? There’s also Warhammer Historical to consider I suppose.

Settle down Stu… you can’t play EVERY wargame under the sun!
By god I can try though!
Seriously. 15mm Ancients in North Africa. I can reuse all my FOW terrain again, even the 15mm ME buildings I have are suitable.
Romans? Numidians? Nobody is tempted? Even if I buy two armies and paint them up! :)
DBA has almost no terrain
If you want terrain then look at doing Warhammer Ancients in 15mm
You may find some local gamers doing that as well.
Hard to say if no terrain is a plus or a minus really! I’ll investigate both rulesets before spending any $$$ I suspect.
Stu, you get two armies up and running and figure out some rules, I’ll play with ya! Might not play very well though, I’m still trying to figure out FOW after Pulping for so long!
Good man! Doing some research. Warhammer Ancients sounds like it’s just a derivative of Warhammer Fantasy 6th Edition which is actually kind of a turn off for me. I particularly dislike the I go, you go system all GW’s games use.
DBM sounds like a harder read, but is potentially more rewarding in terms of tactical play possibly?
Either way I suspect some more reading will be required for historical gaming (which is a good thing). Heck I don’t even recognize half of the races and periods mentioned in some of the DBM army lists!
WAB is based on 5th edition and has been modified to take into account some of the historical tactics and weapons.
Its not a bad system. I have a copy and was looking to game with it before I caught the Pulp bug
Doing a bit of lunchtime reading and I’ll probably go with the Romans and Carthaginians for some 15mm Punic War action.
