Ah well I've thrown together a 4.5" 'U' beam and will mold it tonight. I saw the original Necromunda bulkheads because people are still flogging them off on EBay. They're nicely detailed. My one sided casts will probably be nowhere near that. I'm aiming for a spartan I beam reinforced frame - sort of like the earthquake reinforcing you see slapped on the outside of some existing buildings. I'm not confident I could mold robust enough floor tabs either in Ultracal 30. I can see they're either have to be really thick, or would be prone to breaking. I wonder if you could do some simple locking top edge thing though, just to keep card or plasticard floors in place.

I like your idea of chicken ladder wires because I still have a good roll of your chicken wire left in the garage. I could probably cut a table's worth of necro ladders from that in an evening.

One question I forgot to ask was what are the actual physical dimensions of the Necromunda bulkheads? Inches or mm whatever. I just need to create something close to that myself so if I even get around to actually constructing some full Necro terrain pieces they could mix and match with Aaron's actual Necro terrain.

From memory they are something silly like 7.3mm.
I'll have a look for mine and measure it unless Aaron is reading

Argh typical. I wanna cast this mold but I mixed the Ultrasil in such a hurry I've gone too light on the catalyst and it hasn't bloody set yet. Rrggh.

Stripped off the partially set mold and cleaned the master. I'll mold it again TONIGHT, PROPERLY. Fuuuu.

Primed the pipes with grey housepaint and did the Vegemite + airbrush thing. Looks suitably rotten now. Although I'll have to overpaint the pipes a bit to lift the colour then I think I'll hit them with some chestnut dip! Still have no idea how to cover the base. Probably just gravel painted oily brown.

Made a little chicken wire frame to go over one of the taps and scavenged some corrugated cardboard to weather a bit for a little roof. Going to put it over one of the taps like a little shackety shack. Still trying to think of ways to detail the base. Maybe just rip up some paper and throw some cut up plastic rod into my gravel mix. Actually might use a few of Dustan's model scout car wheels as well...

I would do a mx of card board metal plates and gravel over the rest with bits of crap from the bottom of the bits box thrown in for good measure

You know somebody should sell a pre-mix for that. Wonder if there's a market for it. Buy cheap old Tamiya kits, throw the sprues into a course grinder. Add a bag of kitty litter and a couple of bags of model railway ballast.

Put it in tiny little plastic pottles and sell it as 'Premium Battlefield Basing Mix'.

In a similar vein to selling people plastic tubs with rocks (I'll admit the resin and brass components are almost worth it) the also put out this =D

Painted my pipes. Going to post them this week. Also remolded that effing 'U' bar. Think I'll aim for a totally generic box-X frame that I can use for Pulp, Necro etc. etc.

Pretty generic paint job. I left the base fairly plain because I intend to add stand alone pieces maybe. Like for Necro you could chuck a couple of diesel drums around it or something for a sci-fi look. I also wanted to keep it fairly generic so we could use it for Pulp etc.
