Was I cranky last night? I felt cranky. Harry has been sick which means I've been losing some sleep. I feel perhaps I was a little too precious last night. If so my apologies.

Also. Lots of small islands + Cruisers and Battleships is a pain in the ass...! Also Fleet carriers possibly don't entirely suck. Maybe I should paint mine. Also I think I was cheating you with my Covenant Drones. I think they're destroyed on a 5-6 in the new rules update? I don't think there's an Abort result for them because they're non-piloted? Hard to say how much of a difference that would have made except perhaps you might have had another squadron of tiny flyers left. Also, I still hate Jonathan's robots (god why are they so cheap) but I think a better option is to RUN AWAY from them rather than focus on destroying them. In water they're slower than a battleship even, so just stay away from the big islands!

Haha, perhaps you were a bit cranky but no problem.
Besides, you cheered up as you wrestled the upper hand.

I was a bit dissappointed with how slowly the game progressed so I think we should introduce a gentlemans agreement on the maximum number of cards to limit the value of fielding lots of small squadrons.  I'm not saying its not a valid tactic just that we dont know the game well enough yet (we only got through 2.5 turns last night?!?!)

The carrier didn't suck but I think that was partly due to having the carrier on one side of the table and the robots on the other.  Otherwise you could have simply done what you did with the robots and ignore it.  Of course it helped that your cruisers got jammed up in the islands so I didn't have to try very hard to keep you lined up.

Yeah I was doing STUPID SHIT with those Cruisers. Why the hell I didn't only All Stop a couple of them and move the other one out of the way, I have no idea. Everybody was terrified of colliding with their own battleship. If we'd gone another turn I planned to submerge the Battleship, shoot it 8" through the gap to get it the hell out of the way and open up on the robots (which probably would have been chasing the Battleship) with the Cruisers which were largely intact until you bombed one right out of the water Smiley. A 12 bomb is a terrifying weapon! I'm giving the Inventive Scientists and extra ration of whale blubber after working those shields overtime.

Hey and my Japanese shipped today! And Maelstrom are having ANOTHER sale Smiley.

I actually liked all the islands, makes for a much more interesting game because you can't just head for the open water and have a battle royal...

Yeah I agree with you jonathan.  Perhaps we need to look at the layout a bit more carefully but overall I thought they worked quite well.

They give you lots more stuff to hide behind that's for sure. I did enjoy snuggling my Battleship up to the ice floes and trying to pretend the robots couldn't see me.

Maybe because they're a new release Sad? I'm going to crack on and finish my Icarus flyers and them maybe look at the Fleet Carrier again, although it's a lot of painting :/.

Yes very true.  Could be higher than normal demand for the french but orders are always at risk of delay when you get 8 things in 1 order.   Roll Eyes

Still I need the time to get the sky fortress painted and maybe if I get the bug paint a few more yanks... no wait suppose they are feds aren't they.

Totally. Paint your first fleet! It should be mandatory Smiley. I'm now wondering what use incendary rockets actually are though. Also I can't find that rule about Covenant Tiny Flyers any more, it's not in the latest update. Rrrghhh...

I've discovered I actually dont enjoy painting so generally I just dont do it.
I'll consider the challenge you have laid down to fully paint the first fleet however I suspect I shall instead play Skyrim...  Roll Eyes

Yeah you'll need to check those incendiary rockets, I suspect we should be losing AP every time a raging fire token is placed no matter what it's source.

Covenant flyers definitely blow up on a 5/6 and has no aborts so we played that wrong (well forgot) last night.

I think I enjoy painted figures rather than the actual painting - especially at the DW scale - but seeing as I'm not about to let anyone paint my toys for me, I'll just have to do it (when they arrive).

Dipping (or rather carefully painted on dip). DW ships could be dipped, although it's hard to say if you'd obscure the rich surface detail. Hell if you just primed/base coated and dipped your DW ships you could probably paint a fleet in a couple of nights Smiley. Hmmm...wonder if I should try that with the Japanese, I have brown dip and had intended to paint them in reds anyway... yes...very tempting indeed.

Yeah painting is a bitch. I certainly enjoy the results, but generally not the process. Cost and ridiculous painting time is the main reason I stopped playing GW massed battle games after all. But a painted force just looks so much better on the table!

Without question the most successfull I have ever been with painting was when we did that army building challenge on the PikYak forum.  It would be the last couple of nights before the photos were due and I'd be going hard out to get it done!  Smiley

Having that external motivator worked for me.

Heh. Yeah Pityak. Wonder what happened to him.

Hey if you want external motivation I'd be happy to dash unpainted models from the table and say you can't field them (since I've painted my main fleet Wink).
