Modelling - Wooden Barrels

Measurements: Each barrel is just over an inch high.
Material: Green stuff, Ultrasil RTV and stopping plaster.
Base: 3mm hand sanded MDF.
Detail: I couldn't find any decent wooden barrel sets in the local hobby stores so decided to sculpt my own from 'green stuff'. Green stuff is a two part modelling epoxy available at great expense from Game Workshop stores or a lot cheaper from Jeff Valent Studios.

This was my first attempt at sculpting a master for mold making and came out pretty well I think. The master was built up using green stuff over a 40k drum half for scale. Each barrel is then contructed from two casts of this single mold sanded and glued together. The fit isn't quite perfect so I usually resort to patching the 'metal' hoops with a bit of DAS before priming with acrylic house paint.

A couple of night's effort has given me an endless supply of barrels for my Mordheim terrain. I think my next master sculpting attempt will be a nice solid 'plank' cart wheel. I should possibly also contruct a smaller barrel as well for variety.
