Modelling - Fences and Statues

Fences and Cover

Completed: At various times as we've needed them.
Measurements: 1" x 6" strips. Most fences just over 1" high.
Material: Balsa wood painted with student's acrylic and Citadel paints.
Base: 3mm MDF rounded with hand sanding.
Detail: Painted and drybrushed railway ballast and static grass.
Model ship brass nails used for fence details or clipped dress making pins for much smaller nail heads.

Moveable fences and cover are useful for Mordheim and are often placed very strategically on the table by opponents. They are also very quick to make and paint. General cover is useful as well and adds a certain 'ruined' feel to the table.

Tip: Remember the modeller's motto: "Don't throw it out!". Scrap balsa wood from other projects makes superb rubbish piles and raw material for smaller pieces like the wheelbarrow above.

Statues

Statue

Completed: At various times as we've needed them.
Measurements: Depends on the model. Plinths are usually about 1" high.
Material: Any Fantasy model from your bits box. The plinth is constructed from 3mm MDF.
The MDF is textured with artist's gesso before painting like stonework.
Base: 3mm MDF rounded with hand sanding and covered with DAS textured into cobbles. Static grass gives an overgrown look.
Detail: Painted with Citadel Jade Green according to an excellent guide on the Games Workshop site.

Statuary looks great on the tabletop, is fun to hide behind and is a good way to use up spare Fantasy figures. Mordheim used to be a human city so I'd recommend human figures (the gent above is a Brettonian Knight). Skeletons also make for more macabre statuary.
